Free art exhibit- Feelings of Home- Hui-yi Kuo

For the month of June, works by Hui-yi Kuo will be on view. Hui-yi Kuo’s assists us in transporting to a pleasant and whimsical realm by way of her art work. By anthropomorphizing adorable bunnies amidst oversized flora and tranquil tea times it is impossible not to immediately feel lighthearted and happy-go-lucky. Gestures of serenity and affection often embody the imagery and concepts as Kuo taps into a portrayal of self through allegory and childhood memories. By way of skillful attention to detail in carving her wonderful and unique style of illustration ultimately demand notice and scrutiny. The choice of rice paper as the substrate not only acknowledges the tradition as a cultural practice, but more so adds to the diaphanous nature of imagery. Linocut printing is not so common place and when executed in such expertise and beauty then a spotlight must be shone on for all to see.
